When did you start supporting the club?
My first game was a preseason friendly against Burnley in 1975, I believe it was a 3-1 win, and I was pretty much hooked, right from the start.
Why did you want to join the OSC committee?
I basically feel that the supporters are the club, and whilst players / managers / owners come and go we are the constant factor that keeps the club alive. With this in mind, I want to help the OSC to continue to promote all thing STFC. It also comes with the added bonus of continuing to meet likeminded people, whilst also providing the opportunity to actively support the charity fund raising activities.
Here do you sit at the County Ground?
I have a season ticket in the John Trollope Arkells stand.
What’s your favourite STFC team from over the years?
I look back fondly on the team of the late 1970s, they gave us some incredible cup ties and exciting times and drew some big crowds too. I would have to say though, that the 1992/93 team under Glen Hoddle was my ultimate favourite. Not only did they take us to the Premier League, but they also played fantastic football along the way.
Favourite STFC player of all time?
Difficult to narrow it down to one player as there have been many over the years. The back five of the 92/93 team were all players I really enjoyed watching and it was a real privilege to see Glen Hoddle in a red shirt.
Message to fans about the coming season?
Despite the obvious differing opinions with off the field matters at the moment, we all have the love of STFC in common. Let’s continue to get behind Ollie and the team and enjoy our football and enjoy spending time with our “football families”.
Interesting fact about Ray?
Whilst playing football in my younger days, I managed to break a teammate’s elbow with my head. We had somehow managed to challenge for the same ball and collided. Hours later after he had received treatment, I had a visit from my teammate. The hospital staff were concerned about me and suggested that he checked I was ok. Luckily, I was fine with no ill effects (I think).
