My Dad was always a big town fan and he had been going since just after the war. I introduced me to Following Swindon in the early seventies even though I do have a memory of sitting on my dad’s shoulders outside the town hall when we won the league cup in 69. I first went to a couple reserve games in the 71/72 season when they played on a Saturday afternoon when the 1st team were away and remember seeing Arsenal reserves with the likes of Sammy Nelson and John Radford playing. My first away game was in January 73 away to Bristol City which we lost I think 3-0. I started going regularly in the 73/74 season when we were relegated.

I have been involved setting up the programme shop in the legends a couple of years ago however due to work was unable to commit further. But no I have just retired I feel I can help a great deal more, getting involved in the charity side as well as trying to promote fan groups across the area and beyond.

My favourite team has to be the 85/86 team that won division 4. It was the first time I’d seen us promoted and have such vivid memories especially the game at home to Chester, what a night. Unfortunately I stopped going regularly from about 1987 through to 2003 and probably only saw about 15 games in that period. So missed all our time in the top two divisions and saw one game in the premier which was the 5-0 defeat to Leeds on the last day of the season. Favourite player has to be Colin Calderwood captain of the 85/86 team. Although Rowland and Mayes are well up there especially the league cup run in 79/80. I think it’s all about trying to make a more and exciting experience on match days and all getting behind the team and cheering us on to promotion under Ollie. I have been married to Nikki for the last 15 years and have twins. Also have two stepdaughters and six grandchildren. Nothing really that interesting but did once clean Colin Calderwoods 3 piece suite in the late 80’s. Imagine my surprise when he answered the door. He was a lovely bloke and chatted football all the time I was there.
