The Official Supporters Club (OSC) or Supporters Club as it was known when it was first established in March 1931, was created by a band of sportsman due to the club not being in a good place in the early 1930s. When created the Supporters Club motto was “To help and not to hinder”, and although in the modern day we no longer use that motto and haven’t done for many years the ultimate sentiment behind the motto still very much remains. The modern day OSC tries to support the football club, help it drive improvement initiatives for the good of the club and ultimately for the fans.
The supporters club at its early inception was created to support the Football Club in multiple ways, one of those critically being financially. Now adays we continue we support the club in whatever way we can including financially. The OSCs main income in the modern day is that of the Match Day Draw and these funds help us as a committee to sponsor and support club initiatives such as the Junior Reds room improvements and sponsorship, organising events and running improvement projects to help the club grow and raise funds. Naturally our other key aim in the modern day is to raise funds for our charity of the year which in 2025/26 is Prospect Hospice.
Back in the early days of the OSC, the Supporters Club helped support the club financially by undertaking major stadium improvements as well as actually supporting the club by paying staff and player wages when things got tough.
Just recently a newspaper clipping was found from the 1930s confirming the Supporters Clubs good work helping the club which can be seen below. Thank you to STFC Historian Dick Mattick for providing this clipping, its a wonderful piece of history and reminds us all that in the last 95 years the Supporters Club name and logos may have changed, ultimately the ethos and aim of the OSC and the good work of supporting the club hasn’t really changed at all.
